Scafell Pike from Seathwaite, Lake District

Updated: Aug 7, 2023

A challenging but glorious walk up Scafell Pike, England's tallest mountain. The route from Seathwaite is relatively quiet, although you will encounter more hikers the closer you get to the summit. My cousin Frankie and I were camping at Seathwaite Farm, but there is also paid parking available there for non-campers.

Walking distance: 16.0 km (9.9 miles)

Cumulative elevation gain: 1075m

Highest point: Scafell Pike (978m)

Other landmarks: Great End, Broad Crag, Styhead Tarn

Difficulty: 5/5

Date walked: 23/04/22

Awesome hike and a top guide! From Seathwaite it started fairly gentle following a stream through the valley (very picturesque) and gradually got steeper passing some big tarns, crags and rock formations. It is a long hike and near the top there was a steep scramble, but the views from the summit of Scafell Pike on a clear day are incredible. You can see all the way over to the Isle of Man and for miles around. Hike down was also great taking in some more big views. A proper adventure. Highly recommend. 10/10!
