Pen-y-ghent is the third tallest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Starting in Horton-in-Ribblesdale village, the route follows the River Ribble before crossing Helwith Bridge. It's then a steady, gradual climb towards Pen-y-Ghent, with some clambering up steep rocky steps to get to the summit. The trail continues to Plover Hill, then there's a steep descent before making your way back to the village (or, more to the point, the Crown Hotel pub!).
