The Old Man is one of the most famous fells in the Lake District, and the views on the way up make the steep climb completely worthwhile. Brett and I parked for free by the side of the road in Coniston, then made our way out of the village and up into the hills. We soon passed the Coniston Copper Mines, and then rested at the archaeological site further uphill which offered a glimpse of Coniston Water behind where we had come from. After passing Low Water lake, there was a final steep ascent before reaching the summit, where we had lunch and brewed a delightful cup of tea. We had been planning to continue up onto the ridge to Dow Crag and Buck Pike, but I twisted my ankle on the way down. So, instead, we took the low route alongside Goat's Water before descending past Walna Scar car park and back into the village. All in all, a classic Lake District walk!

Good to read Jack. I remember doing this many years ago. Hope your ankle gets better soon.
