Latrigg & Keswick-Threlkeld Railway Trail, Lake District

After leaving the YHA in Keswick, this walk starts with a fairly steep climb through beautiful woods up Latrigg, the hill which looms over the town. Unfortunately it was very cloudy when we did this walk, so there was no view from the top! The route then descends gradually and eventually reaches Threlkeld after about 8 km; the café in the village hall is well worth a stop for lunch. From Threlkeld, join the disused railway line, which is now a paved path running alongside the River Greta for about 5 km, before arriving back in Keswick.

Walking distance: 14.9 km (9.2 miles)

Cumulative elevation gain: 485m

Highest point: Latrigg (368m)

Other landmarks: Threlkeld Village Hall Café, Keswick-Threlkeld Railway Trail

Difficulty: 3/5

Date walked: 16/02/24
